WebCHIP Launcher

To use, complete the dataset filename. For example, entering "datasets/pc/cen1990/asnusa9.dat" will open the asnusa9.dat dataset in WebCHIP. Enter all dataset information in LOWERCASE and make sure to include the ".dat" or state abbreviation (e.g., ".mi") as appropriate.

  • datasets can take as long as 30 seconds to load; make sure you have given the software sufficient time

  • make sure you have an extension at the end of the dataset name (e.g., *.dat or *.ny)

  • make sure you have indicated a collection/folder name as well as a dataset (e.g., cen1990/example.dat or custom/example.dat)

After clicking "Submit Query", I see a gray box and it says "applet not initialized" in the lower-left hand status bar. What is wrong?

  • you have entered an invalid file name; refer to the tips above.

I am sure that I have entered the file name properly (lowercase etc.), and my dataset still won't load. What is wrong?

  • In a rare number of cases, WebCHIP does not load properly with certain versions of Netscape and Macintosh systems. We recommend that you try loading your dataset in an Internet Explorer browser and/or on a PC.

  • WebCHIP requires that Java Applets are enabled on your computer. If you suspect that Java applets are disabled on your computer, you should (1) enable them or (2) seek the assistance of a lab monitor or computer technician.
