With the MENU-ENABLED LAUNCHER, I don't see my dataset in the pull-down menu? Where is it?
- You must first choose a dataset collection. After you choose a collection, the menu will update to display actual datasets.
- For example, if you are looking for a dataset from the 1990 Census, then you should first select the "cen1990" collection from the menu.
- Or, if you are looking for a dataset for a particular state (e.g., *.ny or *.ca), select the "geography2k" folder.
- If you do not know which collection your dataset is in, please consult your instructor.
It looks like I'm already in one of the collections, but it isn't the one I want. How do I choose a different collection with the
MENU-ENABLED LAUNCHER?
- Simply click "Reset" to start over.
After I click "Select Files" or "Submit Query", I just get a screen with a gray box. What is wrong?
- datasets can take as long as 30 seconds to load; make sure you have given the software sufficient time
- if you are using the MANUAL LAUNCHER, make sure you typed the dataset path name in all lowercase letters
- and make sure you have an extension at the end of the dataset name (e.g., *.dat or *.ny)
- and make sure you have indicated a collection/folder name as well as a dataset (e.g., cen1990/example.dat or custom/example.dat)
After clicking "Submit Query" on the MANUAL LAUNCHER, I see a gray box and it says "applet not initialized" in the lower-left hand
status
bar. What is
wrong?
- you have entered an invalid file name; refer to the tips above.
After I select a collection and dataset, WebCHIP doesn't load. Or, I am sure that I have entered the file name properly (lowercase
etc.), and my dataset still won't load. What is
wrong?
- WebCHIP requires that Java Applets are enabled on your computer. If you suspect that Java applets are disabled on your computer,
you
should (1) enable them or (2) seek the assistance of a lab monitor or computer technician.
- In a rare number of cases, WebCHIP does not load properly with certain versions of Netscape and Macintosh systems. We recommend
that you try loading your dataset in an Internet Explorer browser and/or on a PC.
